My full and half day workshops are run in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and are suitable for both beginners or those wanting to refresh their bookbinding skills. All the necessary tools and materials are provided, you just need to bring your enthusiasm and maybe an apron.

The following workshop will be run from my home in Mulion, Cornwall:

Saturday 27 April – Introduction to Bookbinding – £50

You will be able to choose from a selection of beautiful Japanese, hand screen printed, Chiyogami papers to cover your book with.

During this workshop you will learn about paper grain, folding, collating and stitching together the pages to make a ‘bookblock’, before tackling the case (cover) and finally binding the book together. Not only will leave with a beautiful, A5 multi signature, hardbound book that can be used as a journal or sketchbook, you will also take home the skills to make many more at home!

All workshops run from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm. Refreshments will be provided, but please bring a packed lunch with you. To book your place use the contact form. Places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Some of the tools and materials you will be using

I’ll be posting further dates and new workshops shortly.

I am also happy to visit a different venue if you wish to arrange a group session for friends, family or colleagues. Please contact me for further details.

To whet your appetite, film and photography graduate Saskia Sicherman has filmed me casing in one of my book kits. View here.

“Ken, thank you for such an organised, fun and truly inspirational day of bookbinding instruction. Although we never felt rushed we accomplished so much! All the small tricks you showed us make the difference between a useful book and a beautiful book”

“Thanks Ken for an inspirational bookbinding course on Monday, and for all the really helpful advice on techniques, materials and further possibilities. It was great to go home with such a professional product having started from scratch – excellent stuff!”

“Thanks for an amazing workshop in December. I gave the book to my Mum and she was amazed – it took some time to convince her that I’d actually made it myself”

“I had a great day this weekend learning how to make a notebook. Ken has a great teaching style and his preparation and attention to detail helped me to produce a book that I am really proud of. Thoroughly recommended.”
